BILATERAL RELATIONS
Relations between Malawi and the Republic of Iceland started in the 1970’s and formal diplomatic relations between Malawi and Iceland were established on 13th August, 1998.
COOPERATION WITH MALAWI
Iceland has been cooperating with Malawi through the Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA) which established its office in Lilongwe, Malawi in 1999. Cooperation has concentrated in the development of Marine resources including strengthening of policy formulation and coordination and human resources development; aquaculture development’ and small scale social projects.
ICEIDA’s technical cooperation with Malawi is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Development Cooperation between the Government of Malawi and the Icelandic Republic, which was signed in 1997.
