The Department of Immigration has announced that it has started recalling Malawian Passports currently in circulation to have them replaced with new passports.
The passport applications forms can be collected from all immigration offices. Members of the general public are however, advised that the forms must not be reproduced or photocopied as they have a computer generated bar code number, which is unique to a particular individual.
In order to facilitate the change process, members of the public are encouraged to submit their passport replacement application forms at the Immigration Office through which they obtained the old passport.
To ensure orderliness in the process and efficient service to members of the public, a schedule based on all passport numbers has been prepared to guide holders of the old passport in the replacement exercise. The schedule is as follows:

The normal cost of the new passport is K15, 100. However, an express passport to be produced within 2 days cost K35, 100 whilst an urgent passport to be produced within 5 days cost K25,100.
For Malawians resident abroad, a separate arrangement is being made to facilitate the passport replacement exercise. Appropriate communication shall be made through the Malawi Missions abroad once all arrangements are finalised.
The general public is also being notified that the old passports currently in circulation will no longer be used after 1st December, 2010.
