MALAWI-BELGIUM RELATIONS

Relations between Malawi and Belgium continue to remain cordial. Malawi’s Ambassador to Belgium who is based in Brussels is also accredited to the European Union (EU), while the Belgian Ambassador based in Harare, Zimbabwe is accredited to Malawi.

COOPERATION

Malawi is not a country programme belgium development assistance and at present their support to Malawi is provided through the European Union. However, with the recent establishment of the Malawi/Flanders development cooperation in January, 2007, Malawi stands to benefit significantly, particularly in the areas of Agriculture, Health and Education.

The Government of Flanders through the Flemish International Cooperation Agency (FICA) and the Malawi government have jointly developed a country strategy for Malawi, which maps out the modalities for technical cooperation and assistance in the years to come.
