RELATIONS WITH MALAWI
Diplomatic relations with Malawi date back to 1964, when Malawi gained independence.
COOPERATION WITH MALAWI
The United States of America assists Malawi in various respects. In its Country Strategic Plan for 2007 to 2011, the U.S. is set to continue providing development assistance to Malawi. The development assistance from the U.S.A will continue to contribute towards Malawi’s development under the framework of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS).
In the health sector, for instance, the Unites States Government assists Malawi in the fight against malaria, and HIV/AIDS. In addition, Malawi is also benefiting from funding provided under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Program. This has been due to Malawi’s good fiscal and economic management policies, under His Excellency President Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika.
