Malawi - Japan Relations

Relations between Malawi and Japan date back to the time of independence in 1964.



The establishment of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) offices in Malawi and the opening of the Malawi Embassy in Tokyo attests to the growing strength of bilateral relations between the two nations.  Over the years, Japan has extended to Malawi substantial development assistance for infrastructure development and technical cooperation.


Malawi is the second largest recipient of Japanese overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV).
