 His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, has praised the Global Fund for its allocation of over US$640 million (K640 billion) in financing towards the fight against TB/HIV, Malaria, and Covid-19 in Malawi.
The President was speaking during the Global Fund Pledging Conference hosted by US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
“I give all of you my word that my Government will use its allocation of these Global Fund resources for the benefit of the people who need it most and for no other purpose,” said Chakwera. “We simply cannot afford to waste any of these resources.”
The Malawi leader said the investment in building resilient and sustainable health systems was critical in defeating HIV, TB and malaria, as well as ending the health inequity compounded and exposed by Covid-19.
